‘Where The Rainbow Ends’ is an immersive audio-visual light installation, commissioned by Instagram, for the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity 2019.

The installation is housed in a full-spectrum reflective glass structure designed by artist Germans Ermičs. In collaboration with Ermičs and the Instagram team, London based lighting design studio Light Electric (formally Urban Electric) conceptualise a 180 second, light driven experience, immersing the observer in calming, hallucinatory auras.

Under the creative direction of project lead, Katia Kolovea, freelance installation design services were rendered in the development and drafting of technical solutions, managing remote liaison with the Rotterdam based construction team to ensure precise integration and available access to lighting equipment.

Already under construction, the set dimensions of the structure demanded exact translation, planning to the existing parameters of available recess space. Custom elements were developed in response spatial and configuration challenges, processing creative design concepts for detailed delivery in coordination with ongoing construction progress.

Accompanying the team to Rotterdam, on-site integration of lighting equipment was secured, ensuring full access for maintenance, control and adjustment. Katia and the Light Electric team’s commissioning and execution of the creative vision in Cannes achieved industry recognition, winning the 2019 [d]arc Award in the ‘Art - High Budget’ category.
